Yesvantpur Junction railway station is one of the three important stations which serves the city of Bangalore which is located in Yesvantpur locality.[1] It is one of the developing stations of Bangalore created for reducing the rush at Bangalore City Railway Station. The station code is YPR.

Location

This station is located on the Bangalore-Pune & Bangalore-Hyderabad main lines. Being a main location, all trains bound towards Hubli & Hyderabad either originate from here or the ones from Bangalore City have a stop at this station.

Junction

Yesvantpur Junction railway station is a junction having the main line from Hubli as well as another track bound towards Yelahanka and Hosur which bifurcate at Lottegollahalli station. 12429/30 Bangalore Rajdhani Express uses this track from Bangalore city to reach Yelahanka.

Structure & Facilities

Yesvantpur Junction railway station has total of 6 platforms out of which platform 1,2,4,5 and 6 are platforms for originating train. Platforms 3 are generally used by passing through trains. There are two overbridges connecting one connecting platform 1 and 2 and another from platform 2 to platforms 3,4,5,and 6. It has 2 entrances-one from Yeshvanatpur old area and another on Tumkur road. The one on Tumkur road connects to platform-6 from where most of the important trains depart such as Yeshwantpur - Indore Express, Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express, Yesvantpur Puducherry Express, Dadar-Tirunelveli/Puducherry Express, Yesvantpur-Kannur Express, Vasco Da Gama-Velankanni Express, Yesvantpur-Chennai Central Express, Kamakhya Yesvantpur AC Express, Yesvantpur-Muzaffarpur Express and Howrah Yeshvantapur Duronto Express.

Yesvantpur Junction railway station has 6 non ac retiring rooms and 12 dormitories at an reasonable cost.[2] Other facilities such as AC VIP Lounge, Essential stalls and ATM also available in the station.[3]

Ramps to reach any platform via overbridge are available to all platforms for the benefit of aged and physically challenged.

The side on Tumkur road is well connected with majority of buses from 250Chikkabanavara to 265 series. Yeshvanatpur RMC yard bus stop is the nearest to this station. 401B,401K and K-2 come to 6th platform side from Vijayanagar side and 401M via Outer Ring road(Kengeri to Yeshvantapur). B-2 connects Electronic City from Tumkur roadside but has low frequency.

Proposed Expansion

A vehicle parking facilities is planned to be built in-front of the station building in association with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation as Yeshwantpur Metro station was opposite to this railway station. And a connectivity bridge at first floor between the railway station and metro station along with other amenities such as passenger-facilitation centre at main entry, retiring rooms and flood plaza are also planned.[4][5]
