The 2002–03 NBA season was the Bucks' 35th season in the NBA.[1] In February 2003, just before trading deadline, the Bucks dealt three-time All-Star shooting guard Ray Allen to the Seattle SuperSonics, in exchange for 34-year-old point guard Gary Payton.[2]

After spending half of the season in Milwaukee, Payton became a free agent following the season. He would later sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. Also, following the season, Sam Cassell was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he was named an All-Star in 2004.

It was George Karl's last season coaching the Bucks as he was dismissed following the season. It was also Anthony Mason's final season in the league as he announced his retirement in the upcoming off-season.

The Bucks were eliminated by the eventual Eastern Conference champions, the defunct New Jersey Nets (now in Brooklyn), in six first round games.
