The 2016 San Francisco 49ers season will be the franchise's upcoming 67th season in the National Football League, the 71st overall, the third playing their home games at Levi's Stadium and the first under new head coach Chip Kelly. The 49ers are looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2015 season where they went 5–11.

Offseason

Coaching changes

After the season ended, the 49ers fired Jim Tomsula as head coach.^[1] On January 14, 2016, the 49ers hired Kelly as their head coach. Kelly had spent the previous three seasons as head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles who was fired after a disapointing 7-9 Eagles season.^[2]
