Armthorpe Welfare F.C. is an English football club based in Armthorpe, South Yorkshire. They play in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, at level 9 of the English football league system.

History

The club was established in 1926 and initially competed only in local competitions in and around the Doncaster area. They first entered the FA Cup in 1936, and competed in the FA Amateur Cup for a few years after the Second World War.[2] The club dissolved in 1975 before reforming two years later to join the Doncaster & District Senior League. They won promotion from Division Two to Division One in 1982, and from Division One to the Premier Division in 1982. In their first season in the Premier Division, Welfare won the league title.[3]

After winning the Doncaster league title, Welfare joined the Northern Counties East Football League (NCEL), entering Division Two North. They won another two successive promotions to reach the NCEL Premier Division by 1985, and have remained at this level ever since. Their highest league finish came in 1988, when they were league runners-up.[4]

Welfare have finished runners-up in the NCEL League Cup on three occasions. Although Armthorpe is in South Yorkshire, the club is affiliated to the West Riding County FA, and in 1997 they reached the final of the West Riding County Cup, being beaten by Farsley Celtic.[5]
