Azarshahr (Persian: آذرشهر; also Romanized as Āz̄arshahr and Āz̄ar Shahr; also known as Tufarqan (Persian: توفارقان) and Dekhvareqan (Persian: دِهخوارِقان), also Romanized as Dehkhvāreqān) [1] is a city in and the capital of Azarshahr County, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 36,475, in 9,854 families.[2]
Azarshahr lies in the south west of the Sahand Mountain.
The historical name of this city is Tufarqan. The predominant language spoken in Azarshahr is Azerbaijani.
