Torkamanchay (Azerbaijani: Türkmənçay; Persian: تركمانچائ; also Romanized as Torkamānchāy, Torkamān Chāy, Torkmancāy, Turkmanchai, Turkemanchay, Turkomanchay, Turkmānchāi, Torkamān Chāy, Torkamānchāi, and Turcoman Chie; also known simply as Torkamān)[1] is a city in and the capital of Torkamanchay District, in Meyaneh County, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. A suburb of Mianeh, it is well known for the Treaty of Turkmenchay of 1828. At the 2006 census, its population was 6,434, in 1,645 families.[2]
