Boston mayoral election, 2009
The Boston mayoral election of 2009 occurred on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 between then incumbent mayor Thomas Menino, and Michael Flaherty, current City Councilor and former City Council President. Menino was re-elected and served a fifth term, the first mayor to do so in Boston's history.
The nonpartisan municipal preliminary election was held on September 22, 2009.
Campaign
On September 29, 2009 after the primary election, Flaherty and Councilor Sam Yoon who finished third in the primary election, declared they had formed a ticket. If Flaherty were victorious, he vowed to appoint Yoon deputy mayor, a position that has not existed since the administration of Mayor Kevin H. White, who left office in 1984.
