EIZO Corporation (EIZO株式会社 EIZO Kabushiki-gaisha) or EIZO, is a manufacturer of high-end computer displays. A Japanese corporation, it was founded in March 1968 but did not adopt its current name until 1999, when Nanao Corporation and Eizo merged. It has its headquarters in Hakusan, Ishikawa Prefecture.[1]
Name
The name Eizo is a reference to the Japanese word meaning "image", 映像, eizō in romaji.
History
The company was founded as Hakui Electronic Corporation in Hakui, Ishikawa, Japan, in 1968; it initially manufactured televisions. In March 1978, it became Nanao Corporation. In 1976, it began manufacture of industrial monitors, and in 1981 started making PC monitors.
Eizo was launched as a brand for Europe in 1985 after the company had founded Hitec Associates Ltd as a sales subsidiary for the European market, and the company in the same period founded offices in the United States to launch products under the Nanao brand.
In January 1990, Hitec Associates Ltd was renamed Eizo Corporation. Nine years later, the company merged Nanao Corporation and Eizo Corporation to form Eizo Nanao Corporation, which in 2013 changed its name to EIZO Corporation.[3]
