I-O Data

I-O Data (株式会社アイ・オー・データ機器 Kabushikigaisha Ai-Ō Dēta Kiki) is a Japanese computer peripheral manufacturer. They manufacture hard disk drives, Ethernet hubs, USB cables, etc. "I-O" stands for "input/output".


It gained recognition for its durable external hard disk which survived the 122 cm (4 feet) drop test, which is used in some military tests. It was established in 1976 at Kanazawa for supplying peripheral devices to surrounding factories. Its sales headquarters is in Tokyo. I-O Data operates many offices in Asia.[1]

Data I/O Corporation is an unrelated US electronics manufacturer.
