Hengshi Town (simplified Chinese: 横市镇; traditional Chinese: 橫市鎮; pinyin: Héngshì Zhèn) is an urban town in Ningxiang County, Changsha City, Hunan Province, People's Republic of China. It is surrounded by Huangcai Town on the west, Huishangang Town on the north, Yujia'ao Township and Shuangfupu Town on the east, and Laoliangcang Town on the south. As of the 2000 census it had a population of 47,491 and an area of 123 square kilometres (47 sq mi).
Administrative division
The town is divided into thirteen villages and one community: Hengshi Community (横市社区), Wangbaifeng Village (望百峰村), Jinqi Village (金棋村), Yunshan Village (云山村), Xiangyang Village (向阳村), Quanliu Village (泉柳村), Hejin Village (合金村), Limin Village (利民村), Hengshi Village (横市村), Tiechong Village (铁冲村), Jietou Village (界头村), Jinfeng Village (金丰村), Guansheng Village (关圣村) and Renqiao Village (仁桥村).
Geography
The Wei River, known as "Mother River" and a tributary of the Xiang River, flows through the town.[1]
Economy
The region abounds with iron.[1]
Tobacco and watermelon are important to the economy.[1]
Culture
Huaguxi is the most influence local theater.
Transportation
The 1810 Provincial Highway (1810省道) from Yutan Town, runs through Shuangfupu Town, Hengshi Town, Laoliangcang Town, Liushahe Town, Qingshanqiao Town to Loudi City.[1]
The Luoyang–Zhanjiang Railway, from Luoyang City, Henan Province to Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, runs through Hengshi Town at Hengshi Railway Station.[1]
