Highworth Town was formed in 1893 and joined the Cirencester and District League. In the 1930s they moved to the Swindon and District League and remained there until moving to the Wiltshire Combination League at the start of the 1970s. The previous season (2003–04) had seen their best ever performances in both the FA Cup and the FA Vase when the got to the third qualifying round and second round proper respectively. These runs have never been bettered although the club has reached the second round of the Vase on three subsequent occasions.[2] In 2015 the club became embroiled in a pitch invasion after knocking Tadcaster Albion, out of the FA Vase, after it was claimed Albion Fans had thrown coins at Highworth players and Highworth fans had 'goaded' hard core Albion fans, the club's chairman and goalkeeper were injured.[3]
