The spread of Hinduism in the Republic of Ireland is increasing. The 2011 Irish Census reported 10,688 Hindu residents in Ireland, making up 0.23% of the population. This is more than triple the number of Hindus in Ireland in 2002(when 3,099 Hindus were recorded) and more than 11 times the number of Hindus in 1991.[1] [2] In the 2011 Census, it showed that the number of Hindus surpassed those who professed to be Methodist (6842, down 5318).[3] Hinduism also surpassed Buddhism (8703, up 2187), which made it the 8th largest religion in Ireland (excluding no religion/not stated).[4]
