Kaikaluru is a Mandal in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Kaikalur is home to Kolleru, one of the largest freshwater lakes in India.

Geography

Kaikalur is located at 16°34′00″N 81°12′00″E / 16.5667°N 81.2000°E / 16.5667; 81.2000.[2] It has an average elevation of 18.sri syamalamba temple is one of the famous temple.

Demographics

As of 2011 Census of India, the town had a population of 21,292. The total population constitute, 10,692 males, 10,600 females and 2,097 children, in the age group of 0–6 years. The average literacy rate stands at 78.46% with 15,060 literates, significantly higher than the national average of 73.00%.[3]

Tourist destinations

Kolleru Lake is the largest freshwater lake in India, located in Kaikalur. It is situated between Krishna and Godavari delta. The lake is fed directly by water from the seasonal Budameru and Tammileru streams. The lake is an important habitat for an estimated 20 million resident and migratory birds such as, grey or spot-billed pelican. It was designated as wetland of international importance in November 2002 under the international Ramsar Convention.
