Mang or Mangshi (Chinese: 芒市), formerly named Luxi City (Chinese: 潞西市; pinyin: Lùxī Shì),[1] is a county-level city of Dehong Prefecture, in the west of Yunnan province, People's Republic of China. It is the prefectural seat, and in 1996, Luxi was upgraded to a county-level city.

Name change

In 2008, 4751 people[1] participated in a public opinion survey in favour of restoring the historical name (Mang City), with 96.96% supporting a name change to Mang City.[1] In 2010, the name of the county-level city was formally changed, becoming the very first single-character (excluding the word for city, "市") city in mainland China.
