Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (Bengali: মাওলানা ভাসানী বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is a government financed public university of Bangladesh. It is named after the charismatic, legendary political leader of the country Mawlana Bhashani. This University is the first of its kind among the public universities in Bangladesh. The medium of instruction is English. To ensure a better academic atmosphere, there is no provision for any political activities by the teachers, students and employees in the campus.
Every year, about 700 students get enrolled in undergraduate programs to study in this institution. The total number of teachers is about 80. The University has continued to expand over the last few years. This includes the construction of new academic building, several halls for the students etc.
History
Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) was established at Santosh, Tangail in 1999 with a view to provide modern and scientific knowledge through high quality education to the students. Today's MBSTU is the outcome of the dream which had been dreamt by Mawlana Bhashani long ago. The students are educated in such a way, that they would also have knowledge on life history of Mawlana Bhashani and his social & political activities, ethics. In the true spirit of interdisciplinary approach, the students would, therefore, emerge as professionals with a humane outlook towards life.
On 21 November 2002 Prof. Dr. Md. Yusuf Sharif Ahmed Khan had been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of the university and finally MBSTU started running officially with only two departments -Information and Communication Technology (ICT) & Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) under the first faculty of the university, which is the Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering. MBSTU had started its first academic activities with a total of 83 students and 5 teachers of the CSE faculty on 25 October 2003. After about eight months of academic duration of the university, two new departments were opened - Environmental Science & Resource Management (ESRM) and Criminology & Police Science (CPS) under the second faculty of the university, which is the Faculty of Life Science.
In the 2005-2006 academic session, three more departments were opened. These newly added departments were - Textile Engineering (TE), under the Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering and Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (BGE), Food Technology & Nutritional Science (FTNS), under the Faculty of Life Science.
In the 2010-2011 academic session, four more departments were added under the two newly opened faculties - the Faculty of Business Studies and the Faculty of General Science. These departments were, Bachelor of Business Administration, under the Faculty of Business Studies; Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry & Physics, under the Faculty of General Science.
At present the university holds a total of about 1700 students and is making its way towards success and glory.
Campus
The university campus is located at Tangail. The district of Tangail belongs to the Dhaka division and is located in the north-west of Dhaka. MBSTU campus is situated at Santosh, which is in the southwestern part of Tangail. It has a modest-size campus with limited capacity for residence within walking distances of the academic buildings. At present the campus occupies almost about 57 acres (230670.816 m²) of land. This area accommodates four faculties, the administrative building, the central library, five student halls, sports field etc. The historic Darbar Hall (auditorium), built under the direct supervision of Mawlana Bhashani himself, A dighi (big pond) named after the mystic guru, Pir (saint/wali) Shah Zamaan, the Mazaar (Shrine) of Mawlana Bhashani, a mosque and several other institutions are also present within the university premises.
Besides these, the university also owns some land in Hradkhola, Santosh, where the residence facility for the teachers' has been proposed to be constructed.

- Textile Engineering (TE) B.Sc(Engg.)
Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) is a relatively new paradigm for scientific research and engineering design in which large-scale simulation, data analysis, and high performance computing play a central role. CSE is inherently interdisciplinary, requiring expertise in advanced computing technology as well as in one or more applied disciplines. The CSE Graduate Option Program at the University of Illinois fosters and coordinates interdisciplinary, computationally oriented research and education across all fields of science and engineering, and prepares students to work effectively in such an interdisciplinary environment. CSE is sponsored by the College of Engineering, but participation is not limited to academic departments within the College. All faculty members affiliated with CSE have regular faculty appointments in one of the participating departments.
Students electing the CSE Option as part of their graduate educational program become proficient in computing technology, including numerical computation and the practical use of advanced computer architectures, as well as in an applied discipline in science or engineering. Such proficiency is gained, in part, through courses that are specially designed to reduce the barriers to interdisciplinary study. Thesis research by CSE students has a major computational component and is actively advised by faculty members from multiple departments.

Academic Calendar
The academic year and session is generally divided into two semesters. One semester is composed of 18.4 weeks and each week consists of 5 working days. The session usually starts after completion of the second semester. A full-time undergraduate course consists of four sessions or eight semesters. A regular examination is held at the end of each semester besides class tests for continuous assessment of progress.
Admission
B.Sc. admission in MBSTU is now very competitive, determined in part through a highly competitive admission test. After completion of the higher secondary level (HSC) education, a student can submit an application for undergraduate admission test if he or she fulfills the minimum requirement. Students with a minimum grade in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English of their higher secondary examination are allowed to appear in the admission test.
For admission to M.S. and PGD programs, candidates are required to appear in admission test or interviews. Detailed admission information can be found on the Admission Section and on the Homepage of the Official University Website.
Campus life
Students have classes from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm during the weekdays, i.e. Saturday to Wednesday. The students get the opportunity to visit interesting places on educational tours every now and then.
The students live in five halls. Three of the halls are for the gents and two are for the ladies. Several multistory halls with all kinds of modern facilities are under process of deployment.
The official activities are maintained by the Administrative Department of MBSTU, which is divided into several sub-departments. MBSTU has a health care center to provide care to the students. There is a Physical Education Department, which organizes departmental sporting events and runs the gymnasium to facilitate the students to keep sound health.
Cultural activities such as Ekushey February (International Mother Language Day), Shwadhinota Dibosh (Independence Day), Bijoy Dibosh (Victory Day), Mawlana Bhashani's Birth & Death Anniversary, Pohela Boishakh (the first day of the Bengali calendar), Boshonto Boron (the first day of spring in the Bengali Calendar) etc., are celebrated annually.
Besides these, the university also arranges seminars, symposia, workshops etc., with local and international experts aiming at exchanging views and upgrading knowledge.
Library
The central library is in a significant point of the campus with a calm and relaxing environment, essential for the readers to engage themselves in their studies. A vast collection of course-oriented books along with reference books as well as books that are beyond the courses offered by the university. The library collection is sufficient enough for any student of any department to acquire knowledge on his subjects. The central library is equipped with photocopying machines.
The central library is proposed to emerge into an electronic library soon so that it can run more flexibly and the students can get the chance to take the advantage of the library to the fullest.
Besides the Central Library, every department has its own seminar library to fulfill the demands of the students and teachers. Every department's Seminar Library has a vast collection of books on topics within and beyond the academic courses of that department.
Halls of residence
There are five halls to provide residential accommodation and non-residential attachments for MBSTU students. A provost/superintendent and an assistant provost is appointed for every hall administration. The halls are listed below:
