Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) (Bengali: BUP বাংলাদেশ ইউনিà¦à¦¾à¦°à§à¦¸à¦¿à¦Ÿà¦¿ অব পà§à¦°à¦«à§‡à¦¶à¦¨à¦¾à¦²à¦¸)is one of the newest Public Universities of the country established on 5 June 2008. It is the only public university in Bangladesh supported by the Armed Forces.
History
BUP came into being as the 30th public university of Bangladesh on 5 June 2008. It is a public university run by the armed forces.

Before establishment of BUP, these institutes were affiliated with University of Dhaka, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Chittagong University and Bangladesh National University.[4] Details of all affiliated institutions are available on their respective websites and also on the BUP website.[1]
Academic Program
The five faculties are:
- Faculty of Security & Strategic Studies
- Faculty of Arts & Social Science
- Faculty of Science & Technology
- Faculty of Medical Studies and
- Faculty of General Studies
- Faculty of Business Studies
It awards bachelor's degrees in 10 categories. It awards master's degrees in 25 categories in Engineering, Business, Medicine as well as Military & War studies. It also awards M. Phil degrees.[4]
Bachelor of International Relations (IR) Program
BUP runs the BSS (Hon's) in International Relations (IR) program from 2015 under the Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies. The course includes: International Relations; English Language; Moral Philosophy; Political Science; Economics; Political History; Geopolitics & Strategic Studies; International & Regional Institutions; Int. Law; Foreign Policy; Peace & Conflict Studies; Human Rights; Peacekeeping & the World System; Research Methodology (quantitative & qualitative); Int. Terrorism; Global Environmental Politics; Gender; Int. Negotiation & Diplomacy; Int. Political Economy; State, Ethnicity & Nationalism; Int. Affairs etc. Admission: Each student has to pass through a rigorous selection procedure to secure a place from the prestigious 90 seats. Only students with good academic past records are allowed to apply for a seat and this record accounts for the 25% of the total admission test score. Students who apply for a seat have to seat for a written test of 100 marks which takes place once in every year. The written test consists of 4 subjects. English: 25, Bangla: 25 and General Knowledge: 50 (Bangladesh: 25 & International Affairs: 25). Questions are generally tricky and thought provoking and test is very competitive as well. A student has to score 40% in each of the three sections of the written test to pass it. After passing the test, one has to face a viva-voce which plays an important role for the admission. Finally 90 students are selected from the candidates who have successfully passed all the three stages.
B.S.S. in Economics And Disaster & Human Security Management Programs
BUP runs the BA (Hon's) in Economics and Bachelor (Hon's) in program from 2015 under the Faculty of Arts and Social science. Admission: Each student has to pass through a rigorous selection procedure to secure a place from the prestigious 90 seats of each department (separate admission tests for each department: Economics & DHSM). Admission procedures are similar to the Bachelor of IR program.
B.Sc in ICT program
Bangladesh University of Professionals(BUP) introduced a new department named "Information and Communication Technology"(ICT) from Academic year 2014-15.Bangladesh University of professionals offers B.Sc in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) under Faculty of Science & Technology (FST). This department offers 90 seats for Undergraduate program. Admission: Faculty of Science & Technology (FST) offers B.Sc in ICT Program to Only 90 Student, so it is very competitive.
MBA, BBA & MDHSM Program
Faculty of Business Studies is the only direct teaching faculty of the university. The Business Faculty of BUP has gained popularity within few years of its establishment.[5] This faculty runs three programs. These are:
- MBA Program (Professional)
- MBA Program (Day)
- BBA Program (Day)
There are 80 seats in MBA batch & 110 in BBA batches. Admission tests generally takes place once a year in September–October. The students are generally civilian in MBA (Professional) previously known as EMBA, MBA and BBA programs, but the authority reserves the right to keep vacancies for Military students. Details of all programs including prospectus can be found on the BUP website.[5] There are 90 seats in B.S.S in International Relations (IR). Admission Tests usually take place in January. For details visit BUP Website Notice Board. Master of Disaster and Human Security Management (MDHSM) is another newly started degree program under BUP.[6]
Admission Procedure - BBA Program
Each student has to pass through a selection procedure to secure a place from the 110 seats. Only students with good academic past records are allowed to apply for a seat and this record accounts for the 25% of the total admission test score. Students who apply for a seat have to seat for a written test of 100 marks which is 50% of the total admission test score. The written test consists of 40-marks mathematical questions, 30-marks English questions and other 30-marks critical reasoning questions. Questions are generally tricky and thought provoking. A student has to score 40% in each of the three sections of the written test to pass it. After passing the test, one has to face a viva-voce which carries 25% of the admission test score. Finally 110 students are selected from the candidates who have successfully passed all the three stages. There is a 33% quota to take special students.[7]
