Michael Fitzmaurice is an Irish Independent politician for Roscommon–South Leitrim, who was elected as a Teachta Dála (TD) at the 2014 Roscommon–South Leitrim by-election.[1]

Fitzmaurice, who runs an agricultural and turf contracting business,[2] is the chair of the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association. He was elected to Galway County Council for the Tuam area at the 2014 local elections.[3] He entered national politics in a by-election caused by the election of Luke 'Ming' Flanagan to the European Parliament. He was endorsed by Flanagan.

He is a founder member of the Independent Alliance.[4] He is in favour of water meters and has spoken of wanting to make constitutional changes that would prevent a government from falling if it lost a vote on legislation.[5]
