Miss Latin America 2001

Miss América Latina 2001 was the fifteenth international edition of the Miss América Latina contest, and the seventeenth overall. The final event was held on December 1, 2000 in Montelimar Beach, Nicaragua. At the conclusion of the pageant, Grace Martins of Brazil was crowned by outgoing titleholder, Dania Prince of Honduras.^[1]

Historical Significance

• Chile also placed in 2000.
• Colombia placed for the fourth consecutive time. They matched their highest placement up to that point (first runner-up) for the third time.
• Honduras last placed in 1987.
• Bolivia last placed in 1996.
• Brazil and Venezuela last placed in 1998.
• Brazil won for the third time, making Brazil the first territory to achieve a third title, the most wins for any territory. The Dominican Republic and Venezuela would catch up in the following years.
• Bolivia earned their highest placement ever.
• USA placed for the first time as a single entity, although the states Florida and Arizona had placed in 1985.
