Nordwind Airlines, LLC (Russian: ООО «Северный ветер») is a Russian scheduled and charter airline. The company is headquartered in Moscow,[2] with its main hub at Sheremetyevo International Airport. Nordwind Airlines primarily links airports in Russia with holiday destinations around the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean.[3]
History
Nordwind Airlines was founded in August 2008 by the Russian and Turkish branches of tour operator Pegas Touristik,[4] initially operating three Boeing 757-200 aircraft. Since then, the fleet has been greatly expanded, including the introduction of the Airbus A321 and the Boeing 767-300.[5]
Nordwind’s fleet size goal is to reach 60 aircraft by 2015 and a total of 70 aircraft by 2016. Growth of Nordwind Airlines has been 40% since it was founded in 2008. Fleet size has grown 45% by 2014. In 2008, when Nordwind Airlines was founded, it offered its customers six destinations with three aircraft. By 2009, Nordwind has bought four additional aircraft and started travelling to new destinations. In 2012, Nordwind has taken eighteen new aircraft.[6] Number of passengers transferred in 2013 from January to August is 2,257,674 which equals to a total amount of 157% increase. This number reached 3,089,953 in November 2013.[7]
Destinations
As of 2014 Nordwind has a total number of 97 destinations. It travels to 8 countries and 22 cities in Europe, 8 countries and 12 cities in Middle East and Africa, 3 countries and 3 cities in South America and 6 countries and 14 cities in Asia. In total, Nordwind travels to 26 countries and 97 cities.[6]
