Podolsky District (Russian: Подо́льский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion), one of the thirty-six in Moscow Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southwest of the oblast just south of the federal city of Moscow. The area of the district is 281.45 square kilometers (108.67 sq mi).[4] Its administrative center is the city of Podolsk (which is not administratively a part of the district).[1] Population: 82,488 (2010 Census);[5] 78,076(2002 Census);[8] 103,925(1989 Census).[9]

History

A part of Podolsky District was merged into the federal city of Moscow on July 1, 2012.[10]

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Podolsky District is one of the thirty-six in the oblast.[1] The city of Podolsk serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a city under oblast jurisdiction—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[1]

As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Podolsky Municipal District.[4] Podolsk City Under Oblast Jurisdiction is incorporated separately from the district as Podolsk Urban Okrug.[11]
