Plot summary

Set in 1996 in the village of Azadganj, Udaan is the story of the bonded laborers of a wealthy landlord, Kamal Narayan Rajvanshi (Bhaiyaji). The story is about the female protagonist, named Chakor (Spandan Chaturvedi), who is kept (girvhi) as a collateral. When Chakor's mother Kasturi (Sai Deodhar) was pregnant, her father Hariya died of an accident. Bhuwan had neither money nor a cow to donate to Pandit for Hariya's funeral. Therefore, Bhuwan and Kasturi go to the Haveli and beg for money from Bhaiyaji. Instead, Tejaswini, Kamal Narayan Rajvanshi's wife, suggests they keep their unborn child as a collateral. The couple offer their unborn child as a bonded laborer of Bhaiyaji. Later, they complete the funeral of Hariya. Kasturi gives birth to a daughter, Chakor, on the night of a full moon. Tejaswini allows them to take Chakor back home for 7 years, and then she must be brought back to Haveli to work. After seven years (2003), Chakor enters Haveli. She is a fearless, kind-hearted and an intelligent girl, while being supported by Ishwar Rawat, (Sandeep Baswana) she dreams of freedom. Ishwar is the father of Aditya Rawat, who is a free spirited collector from Lucknow. He adores Chakor as his daughter and wants her to study. Bhaiyaji's family is against of him where Rawat's family wants to expose his cruelty to the public. Chakor goes to school .Arjun Khanna (Vineet Raina) enters in Chakor's life as a Physical Trainer teacher in her life. Vivaan Rajvanshi, the son of Manohar Rajavanshi and Nephew of Kamal Narayan Rajwanshi enters as Aditya Rawat's close friend. Ishwar is determined against all odds to get Chakor educated. He even takes her to Lucknow to seek his family's support. Ishwar's father Purshottam is fearful of Bhaiyaji; so he tries to return Chakor back to Haveli. However, Ishwar is arrested on a false charge by Bhaiyaji, who argues that Ishwar kept Chakor in his home illegally in order to sell her. To protect Ishwar, Chakor faces a difficult decision between saving the man who helped her and her own education. Chakor takes a vow that she will abandon the idea of education. Arjun Khanna enters Azadganj to help Chakor and Ishwar. Vivaan Rajwanshi also enters Azadganj. Chakor meets Bhagya (Sheetal Pandya) the daughter of Kamal Narayan. Arjun and Bhagya fall in love. Ishwar sends Kamal Narayan to jail. Arjun and Bhagya are happily married.Ishwar dies in a bomb blast made by Kamal Narayan. After Ishwar's death Kamal Narayan was released.
