Radhakrishna Jagarlamudi (Telugu: రాధాకృష్ణ జాగర్లముడి; born 10 November 1978), also known as Krish, is an Indian film director, known for his works in Telugu cinema, and Bollywood. He made his directorial debut in 2008 with Gamyam and followed it up with Vedam in 2010. Both films garnered widespread critical acclaim, fetching him the Nandi Award and Filmfare Award for Best Director. In 2015, he directed the period war drama film, Kanche setup in Nazi Germany, the film has garnered the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.[1]
Career
In 2008, Krish made his debut with Gamyam, starring Allari Naresh, Sharwanand, and Kamalinee Mukherjee. The film was produced by his father Jagarlamudi Saibaba along with his brother-in-law Bibo Srinivas, and his friend Rajeev Reddy who came forward after Krish vainly tried to convince many notable Telugu film producers. The film went on to become a big hit at the box office,[2] and won several awards, including the Best Picture[3] and Best Director prizes at the 2009 South Filmfare Award.[3] This blockbuster film is remade in Tamil as 'Kadalana Summa illa", in Kannada as "Savaari" and in Bengali as "Dui Prithbi".
Krish's next film, Vedam, released theatrically in June 2010. The film, starring Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu, and Anushka Shetty in the lead roles, was the first multistarrer film in Telugu after more than a decade. It was well received by both critics and audiences, winning four major awards at the 58th Filmfare Awards South, with Krish receiving his second Filmfare Award for Best Director.[4] Vedam was also the second film to win all the four major awards (Best Movie, Best Director for Krish, Best Actor for Allu Arjun and Best Actress for Anushka Shetty), after Jeevana Jyothi in 1975 and had a good run at the box office as well.
Following the success of Vedam, Krish was signed to direct its Tamil remake, titled Vaanam, starring Silambarasan Rajendar, Bharath, and Anushka Shetty, reprising her role, in the main roles.[5] Like its original version, Vaanam too released to critical acclaim.[6] His next film Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum starring Rana Daggubati and Nayantara released in 2012 was blockbuster at the box office.
His next film was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Production Gabbar, a remake of Telugu film Tagore, released on 20 April 2015. It stars Akshay Kumar and Shruti Haasan. His next directorial, a Telugu film starring Varun Tej named Kanche, released on October 22, on occasion of Dussera and earned positive reviews from critics.[7]
