Rajah Sulaiman Movement

The Rajah Sulaiman Movement[1] is an organization in the Philippines, founded by Ahmed Santos in 1991.[2] Its membership consists of Filipino Christians who have converted to Islam and it is now one of the major conflicts in the Philippines.[3] According to the Philippine government, the group's soldiers have been trained, financed and governed by Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiah, a Philippine terrorist group with links to Al Qaeda.[3]

The group is named after Rajah Sulaiman III, a 16th-century Muslim chieftain of Manila who fought the Spaniards during the colonization of the Philippines.[3] Similar to the Abu Sayyaf, the members belonging to this group claim they want to re-establish the Islamic government and its religion in the Philippines.[3]
