Spain entered the Eurovision Song Contest 1996, held in Oslo, Norway. Televisión Española (TVE) internally selected Antonio Carbonell to represent Spain with the song "¡Ay, qué deseo!" (Oh, what desire!).

At Eurovision

Carbonell performed third in the running order, following the United Kingdom and preceding Portugal. He received 17 points for his performance, placing 20th of 22 .
