Sreepur (Bengali: শ্রীপুর (মাগুরা)) is an Upazila of Magura District in the Division of Khulna, Bangladesh.
Geography
Sreepur is located at 23°36′00″N 89°23′15″E / 23.6000°N 89.3875°E . It has 23,835 households and a total area of 179.18 km².
Demographics
According to the 1991 Bangladesh census, Sreepur had a population of 144,471, of whom 72,766 were aged 18 or over. Males constituted 51% of the population, and females 49%. Sreepur had an average literacy rate of 30.9% (7+ years), against the national average of 32.4%.[1] Poet Farrukh Ahmed (1918–1974), Kazi Qader Nawaz and Abu Saleh were born in this Upazila.
Administration
Sreepur (Town) consists of two mouzas. The area of the town is 3.11 km2. It has a population of 4152; male 51.13%, female 48.87%; population density per km2 is 1335. Literacy rate among the town people is 42.4%.
Administration Sreepur thana was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of eight union parishads, 83 mouzas and 162 villages.
Barishat is the biggest village in not only Sripur but also Magura district. People of multi classes live here. Maximum occupation can be found here. The Eidgaon of Barishat is also the biggest of Magura district.
