The Summertime Ball is a mini-festival in London, held each first or second Saturday of June by Global Radio. The first ball was at Emirates Stadium in 2009, and it has since been held at Wembley Stadium. It is promoted and broadcast by the Capital network.[1] There have been four different sponsors since its first event. Since 2012, Vodafone has been the sponsor. In 2009, Barclaycard sponsored the ball. The following year ASOS.com sponsored the event, with Starbucks sponsoring the event in 2011.
A portion of ticket sales profit is donated to Help a Capital Child (formerly Help a London Child), the Capital charity. In 2015 a portion of ticket sales was donated to Global's Make Some Noise.
2009
Katy Perry opened the show, performing in front of her largest ever audience, and was also rated highly as one of the most interesting artists that day. The festival had an audience of 55,000 people. Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis and Akon were promoted as the headline acts. Kelly Clarkson performed an acoustic version of her song "Because of You". The mini-festival was also touted as Leona Lewis' home-coming gig, due to the fact that she had spent the majority of the year in the USA promoting her album; she performed her song "Bleeding Love" at the festival. Blue also performed.[2]
The event was hosted by Capital London presenters Rich Clarke, Kat Shoob, Lisa Snowdon and Johnny Vaughan. The show was sponsored for its first year by Barclaycard.

2015
The 2015 Summertime Ball returned to Wembley Stadium for the sixth consecutive time and was held on Saturday 6 June 2015. The show sold out within the first few hours of ticket shows.[7] On 27 April 2015 One Direction announced they were going to be the first headliners for the show.[8] On 29 April, Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon revealed the next seven acts to perform at the mini-festival, and the rest of the lineup on 30 April. For a second year running, Sam Smith had to pull out of the show due to an operation. LunchMoney Lewis was added to the lineup on 19 May, with Rixton and Nick Jonas being added the following day. Former The Wanted star Nathan Sykes joined the lineup on 22 May. After appearing at the ball four times together with The Wanted and joining Jessie J on stage at the Summertime Ball last year plus his awaited performance this year, it was Sykes' sixth consecutive appearance since 2010 making him the most popular performer to date.[9]
The event was screened on Capital TV for the second year running.[10] This was most probably One Direction's last Summertime Ball. Marvin Humes' DJ set wasn't shown on Capital TV.
