The 2009 Tacoma mayoral election took place on November 3, 2009. The Incumbent Mayor Bill Baarsma was prevented from running in the general election because of term limits. [1]
Tacoma did not hold a primary election because only two individuals filed for the office: Marilyn Strickland (a former Starbucks corporate executive and Tacoma School Board member) and Jim Merritt (Northend resident, architect, and activist).[2]
Strickland defeated Merritt 51% to 48%.
