Awards Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross

Ulrich Maria Freiherr von Canstein[a] (16 June 1906 – 10 August 1991) was a highly decorated Oberst in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (German: Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes). The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Ulrich Freiherr von Canstein was captured by British troops in May 1945 and later joined the Bundeswehr.
