The Winslow House is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house located at 515 Auvergne Place in River Forest, Illinois. Built in 1893, the house was Wright's first independent commission. The owner, William Winslow, was an ironwork manufacturer who later worked with Wright on a number of publishing projects. The house's design is both inspired by the works of Wright's mentor Louis Sullivan and an early example of many of the traits which later became associated with the Prairie School. The front of the home is symmetrical and horizontally divided into a stone section, a brick section, and a terra cotta frieze. The roof is low-pitched with wide eaves, a key element of the Prairie School.[2][3]
The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1970.[1]
