Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS Beijing, simplified Chinese: 北京耀ä¸å›½é™…å¦æ ¡; traditional Chinese: 北京耀ä¸åœ‹éš›å¸æ ¡; pinyin: BÄ›ijÄ«ng Yà ozhÅng Guójì Xuéxià o) is an accredited K2-Year 13 international school for boys and girls in Chaoyang District, Beijing.[1]
Yew Chung International School of Beijing has been providing a combination of Eastern and Western education to children of foreign nationals since 1995.[2]
Origins and history
Yew Chung International School of Beijing is accredited by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China for enrolling children of foreign nationals.[3] The school is bilingual (English and Mandarin) and open to students ages 2 to 18 years old (K2 to Year 13) offering early childhood education or kindergarten, primary school education, and secondary school education.[4] The international school is part of a network of schools under the name Yew Chung Foundation that includes campuses in Shanghai, Qingdao, Chongqing, Hong Kong, and Silicon Valley, United States.[5]

Timeline
- 1932 – Yew Chung founded in Hong Kong by Madame Tsang Chor-hang.
- 1932 – 1970 – Yew Chung Kindergarten and Primary School.
- 1970 – 1980 – New techniques and concepts introduced into Yew Chung Kindergarten by Madame Tsang’s daughter, Dr. Betty Chan Po-king.
- 1980 – 1990 – International Primary School in Hong Kong established. Education Research section created.
- 1992 - International Secondary School in Hong Kong established.
- 1993 – YCIS Shanghai’s Hongqiao campus opened.
- 1995 – YCIS Beijing campus established. YCIS Shanghai opened its second campus in Gubei.
- 1999 – YCIS Shanghai opened its third campus in Pudong.
- 2002 – YCIS Chongqing campus established. YCIS Silicon Valley opened.
- 2005 – YCIS Shanghai opened its fourth campus in Pudong.
- 2006 – YCIS Qingdao campus established. International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes commenced.
- 2007 - YCIS Hong Kong’s Private Independent School Secondary campus established.
- 2009 – YCIS Schools receive accreditation from National Centre of Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
- 2010 – YCIS Schools receive accreditation from Council of International Schools (CIS)
- 2012 – YCIS Beijing receives Cambridge Award for Excellence in Education from Cambridge International Examinations.[10]

Yew Chung's educational philosophy:

Curriculum
Yew Chung International School of Beijing follows the National Curriculum for England combined with a Chinese language and culture programme (Mandarin). In Primary School and Kindergarten, each classroom has one Western teacher and one Chinese teacher.[12] During Secondary school, Yew Chung International School of Beijing follows the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB).[13]
In 2012, Yew Chung International School became one of the only schools in China to receive the ‘Cambridge Award for Excellence in Education’.[14]

International School Charity
In 2008 as a result of the Sichuan earthquake, Yew Chung International Schools started a charity called Seeds of Hope. Through a partnership with the China Youth Development Foundation, 'Hope Schools' are established in various parts of rural China. The funds for the charity are generated through charity driven projects and matched by local government organisations to build Seeds of Hope Schools.[17]
Awards
In June 2012 Yew Chung International Schools received the “Cambridge Award for Excellence in Educationâ€, the only international school in China to receive this award.[18]
