In this unique environment, YCIS committed to extending opportunities for students to achieve academic and all-round excellence in their journey towards lifelong learning.

Mission and Philosophy

YCIS is committed to offering a global education characterised by: •A fully rounded and balanced education which nurtures the whole child: academically, socially and spiritually; •An emphasis on academic excellence, dual language acquisition and the tools for success in a globalised world; •A bilingual and multicultural learning environment which fosters respect for diversity; •A supportive and nurturing school life which seeks to produce confident, balanced and socially responsible individuals.

Curriculum

YCIS’s international curriculum is based on the framework and schemes of work from The National Curriculum for England (NCE) and The National Curriculum for Scotland (NCS). It is a research-based curriculum that allows high standards and ease of transition for international students who move from one country to another. YCIS offer International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in Year 10 & 11 and move onto A Levels in Year 12 & 13.

Chinese Curriculum

YCIS Qingdao places great emphasis on the acquisition of Chinese language (Cantonese and Mandarin) which is an increasingly important world language. In order to foster a deeper understanding of the language, students also study Chinese culture.

What’s Inside Campaign

Global Education in YCIS

YCIS offers the unique richness and diversity of both Eastern and Western cultures that equip children to be bilingual, global-minded, competitive, appreciative and caring global citizens. Students are nurtured in a multicultural environment with a fully rounded and balanced education, which transforms them into global thinking individuals.

Combining the Best of Eastern and Western Cultures

YCIS combines the best of Eastern and Western cultures by promoting fluency in two major world languages, creating a truly bilingual learning environment, providing courses of study in Eastern and Western philosophy and providing excellent role models who respect and value one another’s culture.

Co-Principals and Co-Teaching Models

The integration of Eastern and Western culture is also achieved through the Co-Principals and Co-Teaching models. Two Co-Principals, one Western and one Chinese, serve as partners in the operations and administration of the school. In addition, two fully qualified teachers, one Western and one Chinese, together plan lessons and conduct classes in the ECE and Primary School.

Character Formation

YCIS integrates moral education into curriculum. A Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) course based on Christian ethics is offered to every student to ensure the shaping of morally good individuals. The course uses everyday situations and examples to provide moral lessons for students. It focuses on developing positive personal qualities such as diligence, loyalty and sensitivity. Messages of these qualities are introduced during assembly and reinforced through classroom activities.

Global competitiveness

In order to be competitive, children need a global education that instills in them an inquisitive mind, an ability to communicate and work with people from different cultures that speak different languages and have strong moral values, thus preparing them to face unforeseen obstacles in the future. Therefore, both parents and educators now look beyond the bricks and walls of classrooms and facilities, to find the right institution that can provide a global education for children to excel in the future.

Fully Rounded and Balanced Education

By recognising the importance of multiple intelligence and individual learning styles, YCIS nurtures all aspects of student growth including the intellectual, artistic, social, spiritual and physical development of each student.

World Classroom

The World Classroom is a unique programme, which is a practical method of preparing our students to participate effectively in today’s global society. Students from Years 7 to 10 learn outside the classroom by travelling abroad with experienced staff. Projects such as building a new school in Tanzania or re-building homes in Thailand give students meaningful encounters with diverse cultures.
