Cernusco sul Naviglio is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Milan, Lombardy, northern Italy.

History

Until the 19th century the town was known as Cernusco Asinario, from the tomb of the Roman functionary Caius Asinius (died 45 BC) found in its territory. During the Lombard domination the area was a possession of the bishops of Monza; later it was acquired by the Pieve of Gorgonzola. In the 13th century it became a fief of the Torriani and, after the former's defeat, of the Visconti. It received the honorary title of city with a presidential decree on March 18, 1985.
