Zachary Alston Bird (born July 14, 1994) is professional baseball pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Bird was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 9th round of the 2012 MLB Draft out of Murrah High School in Jackson, Mississippi. He began his career with the Arizona League Dodgers in 2012 and then split 2013 between the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League and the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League. He was 4–9 with a 5.38 ERA in 28 appearances (20 starts) between the two levels. In 2014 he spent the entire season with the Loons and was 6–17 with a 4.25 ERA in 26 games (24 starts). Bird began 2015 with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League, where he was 5–7 with a 4.75 ERA in 19 games (17 starts).

On July 30, 2015, in a three-team trade, the Atlanta Braves acquired Bird, Héctor Olivera, Paco Rodriguez and a competitive balance draft pick for the 2016 MLB Draft, while the Dodgers acquired Mat Latos, Michael Morse, Bronson Arroyo, Alex Wood, Jim Johnson, Luis Avilán, and José Peraza, and the Miami Marlins acquired minor league pitchers Victor Araujo, Jeff Brigham, and Kevin Guzman.^[1] Bird was assigned to the AA Mississippi Braves.

Mauricio Adolfo Cabrera Valdez (born September 22, 1993) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Cabrera signed with the Atlanta Braves as an international free agent in July 2010.^[2] He made his professional debut that season with the Dominican Summer League Braves. He pitched for the Danville Braves in 2012, Rome Braves in 2013 and Gulf Coast Braves and Lynchburg Hillcats in 2014.^[3] The Braves added Cabrera to the team's 40-man roster on November 19, 2014.^[4] Cabrarera split the 2015 season between the Carolina Mudcats and Mississippi Braves . In September 2015, it was announced that he would participate in the Arizona Fall League along with several other Braves prospects. His brother, Alberto Cabrera, plays in the Detroit Tigers organization. .^[5]

Braxton Cain Thomas Davidson (born June 18, 1996) is a baseball outfielder. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.^[6] He attended T. C. Roberson High School in Asheville, North Carolina.^{[7][8][9][10]} Davidson spent the 2015 season with the Class A Rome Braves, where he hit ten home runs in 125 games, with a .242 batting average, a .381 on base percentage, and a .374 slugging percentage.^[11]

Christopher J. Ellis (born September 22, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Ellis was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 50th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft out of Spain Park High School in Hoover, Alabama.^[12] He did not sign with the Dodgers and attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) to play college baseball.

Ellis was then drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the third round of the 2014 MLB Draft.^[13][14] He signed and made his professional debut with the Orem Owlz. Ellis started 2015 with the Class A – Advanced Inland Empire 66ers and was later promoted to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers.^[15][16]

On November 12, 2015, the Angels traded Ellis, Sean Newcomb, Erick Aybar and cash to the Atlanta Braves for Andrelton Simmons and Jose Briceno.^[17]

Brady Feigl

Brady Matthew Feigl (born December 27, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Feigl played college baseball at Mount St. Mary's University from 2009 to 2012. He missed his junior year in 2011 due to a torn labrum.^[18] A year after graduating college, Feigl signed with the Atlanta Braves as an undrafted free agent in October 2013 after he impressed a Braves scout at Mount St. Mary's Scout Day.^[18][19] Feigl was signed by Braves' scout Gene Kerns.^[20] He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Rome Braves and was later promoted to the Lynchburg Hillcats. In 2015, the Braves invited Feigl to spring training, where he competed for a spot on the opening day roster.^[18][21] Though he spent most of spring training in minor league camp, Feigl was viewed as having a good chance of making the team, due to the release of James Russell.^[20] Feigl instead began the 2015 season with the Gwinnett Braves, where he injured his elbow in his Triple–A debut against the Durham Bulls on April 10.^[22] Eleven days later, Feigl underwent Tommy John surgery, performed by James Andrews.^[23]

Max Fried

Max Dorian Fried is an American baseball player in the Atlanta Braves farm system.

Fried attended the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, and was drafted by the San Diego Padres at number 7 overall in the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.^[24] Baseball America had him rated as the top left-hander available in the draft, high school or college.^[25] Though Fried had committed to the UCLA Bruins baseball team,^[26] he chose instead to sign with the Padres for $3 million.^[27] Fried made his professional debut for the Arizona League Padres later that year, and was promoted to the Class A Fort Wayne TinCaps in 2013. At the end of the year, Fried was ranked the 43rd-best prospect in the minors by MLBPipeline.^[28] He was injured for much of 2014, and did not make his season debut until July. The next month, on August 20, 2014, Fried underwent Tommy John surgery, and missed the remainder of the 2014 season.^[28]

On December 19, 2014, the Padres traded Fried, Jace Peterson, Dustin Peterson, and Mallex Smith to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Justin Upton and Aaron Northcraft.^[29] Fried missed the entire 2015 season to recover from Tommy John surgery.^[28]

Matt Lipka

Matthew F. Lipka (born April 15, 1992) is a professional baseball player in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Lipka attended McKinney High School in McKinney, Texas.^[30] The Atlanta Braves selected Lipka in the first round (35th overall) of the 2010 MLB Draft. In 2011, the Braves had Lipka shift to center field.^[31]

Lipka played for the Lynchburg Hillcats of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League in 2013,^[32] and the Mississippi Braves of the Class AA Southern League in 2014. He returned to Mississippi to start the 2015 season.^[33]

Max Povse

Max Walter Povse (born August 23, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Povse was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 42nd round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft out of Green Hope High School in Cary, North Carolina. He did not sign with the Dodgers and attended University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he played college baseball for the UNC Greensboro Spartans.

After his junior year, Povse was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the third round of the 2014 MLB Draft.^[34][35] He signed with the Braves and made his professional debut with the Danville Braves. Povse spent 2015 with the Rome Braves and Carolina Mudcats and started 2016 with Carolina.^[36][37]

Austin Riley

Michael Austin Riley (born April 2, 1997) is an American professional baseball third baseman in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Riley was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the 41st overall pick in 2015 Major League Baseball Draft out of DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, Mississippi.^[38][39] Though he was committed to Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball team,^[40][41] Riley chose to sign with the Braves for $1.6 million.^[42] Riley made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Braves that season. After 30 games, he was promoted to the Danville Braves. Overall in 60 games he batted .304/.389/.544 with 12 home runs over 217 at-bats.^[43][44]

Lucas Sims

Lucas Sundberg Sims (born May 10, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Sims was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft out of Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia.^[45][46] He signed with the Braves, receiving a $1.65 million signing bonus.^[47]

During his first professional season he pitched for the rookie level Gulf Coast League Braves and Danville Braves. He finished 2-4 with a 3.71 earned run average with 39 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched.

Sims played the 2013 season with the Class-A Rome Braves. He started the season in the bullpen but was then moved to the rotation.^[48][49] He finished the season 12-4 with a 2.62 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 116 ²⁄₃ innings.

In 2013, Sims was considered the Braves best prospect according to MLB.com.^[50] He had fallen to third on the same list by the start of the 2015 season,^[51] and was placed seventh on the year-end list.^[52] The Braves sent Sims to the Arizona Fall League in 2015. He opened the AFL season for the Peoria Javelinas,^[53] and also started the Fall Stars Game.^[54] Sims was invited to spring training for the first time in 2016.^[55] He began the season with the Mississippi Braves,^[56] and was promoted to Gwinnett on April 23.^[57]

Michael John Graydon Soroka (born August 4, 1997) is a Canadian professional baseball pitcher in the Atlanta Braves organization. The Braves drafted him 28th overall in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.

Soroka attended Bishop Carroll High School in Calgary, Alberta.^[58] He pitched for the junior national team, coached by Chris Reitsma.^[59] Prior to the 2015 draft, he was ranked 88th by Baseball America's annual rankings of prospects.^[60]

Dian Toscano

Dian Toscano Carrera is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder in the Atlanta Braves organization. Prior to joining the Braves, Toscano played in the Cuban National Series for the Naranjas de Villa Clara from 2008 to 2012.

He agreed to terms for a major league contract with the Atlanta Braves on December 8, 2014^[61][62] and officially signed the deal on January 28, 2015.^[63] The deal paid Toscano $6 million over four years and includes a $1.2 million signing bonus.^[64]

Toscano did not arrive in the United States until April 2015.^[65][66] Due to visa problems that were not solved until July, he did not play in games at any level during the season and was limited to workouts at the Braves spring training facility, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.^[67]

Rob Whalen

Robert D. Whalen (born January 31, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Atlanta Braves organization.

Whalen's parents are from Queens, New York City, and moved to the Poconos to raise their children. After Whalen's older sisters graduated from high school, the Whalens moved to Florida, where Whalen would have a better opportunity to pursue a career in baseball.^[68] He graduated from Haines City High School in Haines City, Florida. The New York Mets selected Whalen in the 12th round of the 2012 MLB Draft.^[69] Whalen had committed to Florida Atlantic University.^[70]

After pitching for the Savannah Sand Gnats of the Class A South Atlantic League during the 2014 season, Whalen pitched in the Arizona Fall League, where he worked on the development of his changeup. The Mets assigned him to the St. Lucie Mets of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League to begin the 2015 season.^[68] On July 24, the Mets traded Whalen and John Gant to the Atlanta Braves for Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson.^[71] The Braves assigned Whalen to their A Advanced affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats.
