Yana Gupta (née Synková, born 23 April 1979) is a Czech model, actress and author working in Mumbai.[1] She started her modelling career at the age of 16, and after graduating in Park Architecture and Gardening, she left for Japan, where she modeled for a considerable period of time. Her restless spirit then took her to India, where she spent her initial years at the Osho’s Meditation centre in Pune. It was there where she also got married (changing her last name to Gupta). In 2001 she entered the Indian modelling scene and became the brand ambassador of the largest Indian cosmetic brand Lakme. In 2003 she made her entry into Bollywood with an item number ‘Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo’ in film Dum. The song became a hit and instantly made Gupta into one of the most sought after Bollywood actresses. In 2009 Yana turned writer, by writing a book on health "How To Love Your Body And Get The Body You Love".[2]

Career

She started her modelling career at the age of 16. In 2001 she entered the Indian modelling scene and became the brand ambassador of the Indian cosmetic brand Lakme.[4] In 2003 she made her entry into Bollywood with an item number ‘Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo’ in film Dum. The song became a hit and instantly made Gupta into one of the most sought after Bollywood actresses. She also appeared in an Item song in Venkatesh's Gharshana.[5] In 2009 Yana turned writer, by writing a book on health "How To Love Your Body And Get The Body You Love".[6] She has released a music album.[7] She performed in Bigg Boss 6 finale.[8] She reached the finale of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa but lost out to Meiyang Chаng.[9]

Personal life

She was married to Satyakam Gupta in 2001 and got divorced in 2005.[10] She is a vegetarian.[11]

Controversy

She faced criticism when a picture of her without her underwear was taken, due to wardrobe malfunction at a children's charity event. It was called a publicity stunt.[12]
