Garbagnate Monastero is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northeast of Milan and about 12 kilometres (7 mi) southwest of Lecco. Garbagnate Monastero borders the following municipalities: Barzago, Bulciago, Costa Masnaga, Molteno, Sirone. As of 31 Dec. 2010 the total population was 2,420 with 1,222 males and 1,198 females. There were a total of 937 households with an average number of members per household of 2.59.[1]

In 1992 the municipality of Garbagnate Monastero has passed from the province of Como in the province of Lecco . The ISTAT code of the town before the change was 013104. Since 1997, the new CAP of the town is 23846. The old zip code was 22040.[2] Garbagnate Monastero being a small township has few established business, the popular ones being packaging, machinery and engineering.[3] Administration board includes Angelo Cafagna (Mayor), Geom. Giorgio Bonfanti & Ing Martin Sirtori (Councillors) and 12 Municipal Councillors.[4]
