L'Isola dei Famosi

L'Isola dei Famosi (pronounced [ˈliːzola dei faˈmoːzi; -oːsi]; Italian for The Celebrity Island or The Island of the Famous) is an Italian reality show which was first aired on Rai Due in 2003, before moving to Canale 5 in 2015. The first eight editions of the show, held between 2003 and 2012, were hosted by Simona Ventura. After her departure to Sky Italia, with whom she signed a two-year contract, the show underwent a change in format. Starting from the ninth edition, the show now has two hosts, Nicola Savino in studio and Vladimir Luxuria on the island, both of whom were replaced in2015 by Alessia Marcuzzi in studio, and Alberto 'Alvin' Bonato on the island.

The format is the Italian edition of the programme Celebrity Survivor, created by Charlie Parsons. In February 2001 a show with a similar format, called Survivor, was aired on Italia 1, hosted by Benedetta Corbi. That show did not have celebrity competitors, and had disappointing viewership (probably because it was not live and because of the rigid division of the show into two parts: a montage of the week of the castaways and the studio talk show).

On The Island of the Famous a group of celebrity competitors (beginning with the fifth edition a non-celebrity competitor was also added) must survive on a desert island with no facilities by building shelter, procuring food and water, and finding ways to maintain warmth. Candidates have a basic survival kit which, through group efforts, can be enhanced with new objects created.

Once a week there is a challenge winner, determined through contests of skill, balance, strength, etc. The competitor who wins the week’s challenge becomes immune from elimination in the next episode.

A live "nomination" takes place on a weekly basis, whereby competitors are gradually eliminated. The last remaining contenders compete for the final prize during the season finale.

The first three editions took place in the Dominican Republic on the Samaná Peninsula. From fourth to sixth season the show moved to Cayos Cochinos, Honduras. Due to the coup in Honduras, however, the seventh edition of the reality show was held in Corn Islands, Nicaragua only to return to Honduras for the eighth season.

After some uncertainty at RAI about scheduling the show for 2011/2012 (due to the loss of Simona Ventura upon her transfer to Sky), on September 15, 2011 the Board of RAI gave the green light to the ninth edition of the program with the dual hosts, Nicola Savino and Vladimir Luxuria.

Notes

• Note 1: Brice and Cecilia were exempt as they were new housemates and were in another island. While they were in Playa Desnuda, they will be exempt from nominations but they will have to face eviction with the weekly evicted contestant.
• Note 2: Alex, Fanny and Pierluigi won immunity in a challenge and they were able to name a nominee.
• Note 3: As the winner of the immunity challenge, Andrea was given the power to name a second nominee. Patrizio decided to stay in Playa Desnuda.
• Note 4: Two new contestants arrived to the island, they were Cristina and Margot. A public vote was opened and Cristina received the most votes to enter the show with 65.51%. Cristina was exepmt as she was a new contestant.
• Note 5: As the winner of the immunity challenge, Rocco was given the power to name a second nominee. Charlotte decided not stay in Playa Desnuda.
• Note 6: As the winner of the immunity challenge, Donatella were given the power to name a second nominee. Melissa decided not stay in Cayo Paloma.
• Note 7: As the winner of the immunity challenge, Alex were given the power to name a second nominee. Pierluigi decided not stay in Cayo Paloma.
• Note 8: Cecilia moved to Playa Uva to live with the rest of contestants and she was immune. Brice remained in Cayo Paloma, so he is still exempt of nominations.
• Note 9: Brice moved to Playa Uva to live with the rest of contestants and he was immune. Rocco decided to stay in Cayo Paloma.
• Note 10: There will be a double elimination through a task that does not compete Alex Belli because he's leader. Cristina Buccino wins the task and save Valerio Scanu, it saves Cecilia Rodríguez who saves Donatella that between Andrea Montovoli and Rachida Karrati decide to save Andrea Montovoli, then Rachida Karrati is eliminated.
• Note 11: Rocco was in Cayo Paloma, he will be exempt from nominations but he will have to face eviction with the weekly evicted contestant. Rachida decided not stay in Cayo Paloma.
• Note 12: As the winner of the immunity challenge, Brice were given the power to name a second nominee. Alex decided to stay in Cayo Paloma
• Note 13: There are two more eliminations. Is carried out a test to decide the second eliminated. They form two teams: one composed of men Valerio, Brice and Andrea and a women's team composed of Donatella, Cristina and Cecilia. The test was won by the women's team who must save a member of the men's team loses. They decide to save Valerio then Andrea and Brice go televoting to decide the second eliminated. The vote shows that Andreais with 69.38% voting eliminated. Refuses to undress on Cayo Paloma therefore is finally eliminated.
• Note 14: Is performed another test to decide the third out. Among Donatella, Cristina and Cecilia the race is won by Donatella. Among Valerio and Brice the race was won by Brice Martinet. The winners of the two heats and Donatella Brice compete in a final third heat: the test was won by Brice. The latter must send two competitors to remote voting. Decides to send Valerio and Cristina. The vote that Cristina is with 69.40% of the vote the third eliminated. Refuses to undress on Cayo Paloma therefore is finally eliminated.
• Note 15: Opens a televoting Cayo Paloma to decide who between Rocco and Alex must remain still in the game. The vote that Rocco is with 68.78% to save.
• Note 16: Brice won the inmmunity challenge but was not given the power to name a second nominee. Donatella and Rocco were tied with 1 vote and Brice had to break it nominating Rocco.
• Note 17: Is conducted immunity testing. Was won by Brice Martinet who then has the right to make immune another finalist. Decides to save Donatella, then Cecilia Rodríguez and Valerio Scanu go televoting to decide the fourth place. The vote that Valerio Scanu is with 61.04% of vote permanently deleted and fourth ranked.
• Note 18: Is performed another test. Is won by Donatella are therefore first finalist. Televoting go Brice Martinet and Cecilia Rodríguez to decide third place. The vote that Cecilia Rodríguez is with 63.20% of vote third place then Brice Martinet is the second finalist.
