List of Doctor Who historical characters
This is a list of historical, mythical and fictional characters who have been portrayed in the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who, or who have supposedly encountered the time traveller known as Doctor.
This list is divided into four parts:
- Historical characters who have appeared on the programme
- Characters from mythology who have appeared on the programme
- Characters from fictional works who have appeared on the programme
- "Name-drops": Historical or mythological characters who the Doctor has claimed to have met, but who have not been seen on screen.
All but the "Name-drops" are listed with a reference to the story they appeared in and the actor who played them.
List of historical figures
- The following are listed in a historical order by known or approximate date of birth due to some historical figures having appeared in multiple episodes. This list includes only those historical figures who have been represented through a named actor, thus excluding self-portrayals in celebrity cameo appearances and historical figures who have only been represented on Doctor Who through stock footage and body doubles. Note the names of those listed follows standard convention, rather than as credited in particular episodes, which differ slightly in some cases.
Expanded Universe
Outside the main series, the Doctor as well other spin-off characters have encountered other historical figures in the Expanded Universe in novels, comics, audios and short stories.
