Montalto delle Marche is a comune (municipality) and former Latin catholic bishopric in the Province of Ascoli Piceno in the Italian region Le Marche, located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) south of Ancona and about 15 kilometres (9 mi) north of Ascoli Piceno.

Description

As of 2 January 2010, it had a population of 2,307. It is 512 metres (1,680 ft) above sea level and covers an area of 34.1 square kilometres (13.2 sq mi).[1]

The municipality of Montalto delle Marche contains the frazioni (subdivisions) Patrignone, Contrada di Lago and Porchia.

Montalto delle Marche borders the following municipalities: Carassai, Castignano, Cossignano, Monte Rinaldo, Montedinove, Montelparo, Ortezzano.

Ecclesiastical history

On 1586.11.24, the Latin Catholic Diocese of Montalto was established on territory split off from the then Diocese of Fermo (now an Archdiocese).

On 1986.09.30 it was suppressed and its territory and title were merged into the Diocese of San Benedetto del Tronto–Ripatransone–Montalto.
