Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a Hong Kong-based company that runs the "Shangri-La", "Kerry", "Traders" and "Hotel Jen" brands of hotels.[1] The five-star luxury lodgings of the chain can be found across Asia, the Middle East, Canada, Oceania and Europe.[2]

History

The first hotel of the luxury Shangri-La group was the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, opened in 1971. The name refers to the fictional place Shangri-La, described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton.
