The 2000–01 NBA season was the Nets' 25th season in the NBA.[1] The Nets won the draft lottery, and selected Kenyon Martin with their first overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft. The Nets' ended the season with a record of 26–56, worse than last season's record of 31–51. Their first game was at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 31, 2000. The Nets lost 82–86. Their first win was an away game three days later against the Chicago Bulls. The score was 92–82. The Nets last game was at home against the same team. New Jersey lost 94–100. For the third year in a row the Nets did not make the playoffs after finishing 6th in the NBA Atlantic Division. Stephon Marbury was selected for the 2001 NBA All-Star Game. Following the season, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns.
