Television coverage

Sheffield Wednesday will feature on many highlight television shows throughout the 2012–13 season, these include BBC programme The Football League Show,[105] highlights on Sky Sports News and other Sky Sports channels, as well as brief glimpses on Sky1 in Soccer AM.[106] Live coverages of matches for Sheffield Wednesday will come only a few number of times in the season, with the Premier League being most popular for live coverages of matches. However, Wednesday's first game of the season in the League Cup, away to Oldham Athletic, has already been confirmed to be live on Sky Sports,[107] while some Football League Championship games will now not feature live on the BBC compared to last season. Also, Wednesday could feature on ESPN in the FA Cup and the League Cup, as they did in the previous season. Sky Sports announced on 26 June that Sheffield Wednesday's local derby clash against Leeds United will also be live on television at Hillsborough Stadium, with the game due to kick-off at 19:45 on Friday 19 October, instead of Saturday 20 October.[108] Another re-arranged fixture to a Friday night was made by Sky Sports when they confirmed that the Owls' game against Middlesbrough was set to be live on television, this time on 9 November 2012.[109]

The first televised game for Sheffield Wednesday, against Oldham Athletic, finished in an entertaining 2–4 win for the Owls. Jermaine Johnson, substitute Chris O'Grady (x2), and Michail Antonio got all the goals for the Owls, after trailing 2–0 at half-time.[110]

On 24 September 2012, it was confirmed that the South Yorkshire derby between Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday was to be live on Sky Sports with the game to kick-off at a later time of 17:20 instead of 15:00 on Saturday 15 December.[111]

A month later it was also revealed that Sheffield Wednesday's fixture away to Hull City had been moved to a 17:20 kick-off, after Sky Sports had picked the game to be on live television. The fixture is due to take place on 12 January 2013, it will be the first live fixture for the Owls of the new 2013 year.[112]

Another late kick-off was arranged when it was decided by Sky Sports for the Owls' home game against Nottingham Forest would be televised.[113]

On 26 March 2013, the second-to-last game at the end of the season, which is due to take place on 27 April against Peterborough United, was confirmed to have moved to a late kick-off of 5:20pm, due to Sky Sports selecting the possible relegation-decider for live television coverage.[114]
