Location

Bencoolen MRT Station (DT21) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Downtown Line Stage 3 in Singapore. Located under Bencoolen Street, the station will serve the nearby Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, which is next to the station. The station is located within a five-minute walk to Circle Line's Bras Basah.

Bencoolen will be the deepest MRT station in Singapore at 43 m (141 ft) below ground when completed, the second being Promenade.

Etymology

The station was named after Bencoolen Street, which was in turn named after the city of Bencoolen (now Bengkulu, Sumatra, Indonesia).

History

As the station is located under Bencoolen Street, a portion of the Bencoolen Street is closed from Prinsep Link to Bras Basah Road from October 2011 to the fourth quarter of 2016.[1][2]
