Camille Loiseau

Camille Blanche Loiseau Chadal (13 February 1892 – 12 August 2006) was the oldest living person in France for more than a year, until her death aged 114 years 180 days. Loiseau was ranked fifth in the world in the 2007 edition of Guinness World Records. She achieved the position of France's oldest woman, known in France as the Doyenne de France, on the death of Anne Primout on 26 March 2005, who also died at age 114.

She was the oldest verified person living in Europe since the death of 114-year-old Italian Virginia Dighero 28 December 2005, and became the fifth oldest verified living person in the world on the death of 115-year-old American Susie Gibson on 16 February 2006. Madame Loiseau was succeeded as doyenne of France by Marie-Simone Capony, aged 112 at the time, though the title was first given to fellow 112-year-old Marie Mornet Robin who lived in the western town of Poitou-Charentes, but was three weeks younger than Capony.[18]

She was born in Paris and never moved out of the city until her hospitalization in 1998 due to a fall. She was the youngest of nine children, four boys and five girls. On 13 August 1910 she married René Frédéric Chadal, although their marriage lasted only 15 days.[19] As is common in France, Camille Loiseau chose not to use her husband's last name.

She had celebrated her last birthday "with a little champagne", and was known right to the end of her life for her humour and flirtatiousness. She died in the Hôpital Paul-Brousse in Villejuif.

Marie-Simone Capony

Marie-Simone Capony (14 March 1894 – 15 September 2007) was, at age 113, the oldest living person in France for more than a year and a retired librarian.[20] She became the French doyenne following the death of 114-year-old Camille Loiseau in August 2006. At the time of her death, aged 113 years and 185 days, due to heart failure, she ranked as the fifth-oldest person in the world. Capony was born in Charlieu (Loire), and lived in a retirement facility in Cannes. She never married (her fiancé was killed in action at the beginning of the First World War in 1914).[20] Capony had not been able to walk since she turned 100, after having an operation in order to fix a broken thighbone, but she still remained in fairly good health considering her very advanced age.[20]

Mathilde Octavie Tafna

Mathilde Octavie Tafna Albina (16 March 1895 – 1 May 2007) was the oldest living person of a French possession since the death of 113-year-old Julia Sinédia-Cazour on 6 October 2005, until her own death at age 112. Living in Guadeloupe, she was the third-oldest French person and the 19th oldest person in the world. According to the Gerontology Research Group, she was succeeded by Marie-Louise Lhuillier of New Caledonia.[21]

Aimé Avignon

Aimé Avignon (2 February 1897 – 23 August 2007) was the oldest living man in France, at 110 years of age, from the death of 111-year-old Maurice Floquet on 10 November 2006 until his own death over nine months later. He also became the seventh French man to become a supercentenarian. He was the eighth-oldest man in the world, and the third-oldest in Europe. He never fought in the First World War therefore, he was not a poilu. Louis de Cazenave was the oldest living French World War I veteran and, at 109, took over as oldest living Frenchman until his own death on 20 January 2008.[22]

Marie-Louise Lhuillier

Marie-Louise Cathérine Lhuillier (also spelled L'Huillier) (26 June 1895 - 28 December 2007[23]) was a French supercentenarian, the second-oldest person in France and 14th-oldest in the world, at age 112 years, 185 days when she died, in addition to being the oldest ever person to have lived in New Caledonia.

Mathilde Aussant

Mathilde Aussant (27 February 1898 - 23 July 2011) was a French supercentenarian who was at the time of her death believed to be the oldest verified person in France.[24][25][26] However, the subsequent verification of Maria Diaz to have been born on 22 February 1898 meant that Aussant was in fact the second oldest.

She was born in Donges, France,[27] the fifth of eleven children born to François Gaudet and Hélène Halgand. Following the death of her mother, she left Donges for Paris in 1923. She worked as a housekeeper and babysitter. She married a railroad worker from Gare Saint-Lazare, who died in 1936. In 1946, she married another railroad worker, René Aussant, who died in 1961. Their only daughter died in 2007, leaving Aussant without any immediate family.[25] In 1999, she moved to a retirement home. In 2008 she was awarded the Medal of the city of Donges. She died at a hospital in Vendôme on Saturday, 23 July 2011.

Marie-Isabelle Diaz (22 February 1898 - 29 October 2011) was oldest living French person from the death of Eugénie Blanchard on 4 November 2010, until her own death a year later.[13] she was 113 years 249 days old when she died. she is also oldest person ever from the French possession of Réunion and oldest person ever born in Africa.

Irénise Moulonguet (6 November 1900 – 28 May 2013), from Martinica, was a French supercentenarian and the doyenne of France, from the death of Paule Bronzini on 29 August 2012 until her own death on 28 May 2013. Before she was accepted as a doyenne of France, it was believed that the title belonged to both Maria Richard (28 November 1900 – 11 October 2012) and Eugenie Dauzat (6 December 1900 – 12 January 2013). She was accepted on 29 January 2013.[14] She was the last survivor of the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée and the last known living French person to have been born in the 19th century.[28]
