Guru Nanak Institute of Technology (or GNIT)is an engineering college located in West Bengal, India. The college was established in 2003 by the JIS Group, in Panihati, Sodpur, a suburb of Kolkata. The college is an AICTE-approved institution and is affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology.^[1]^[2]^[3]

The Institute is now in its 12th year of dedicated service to the people of West Bengal and other states in the field of Technical Education. The Institute got NAAC accreditation in the year 2014. Three UG Programmes in ECE, EE and FT have been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in the year 2014

The campus

The Guru Nanak Institute of Technology (GNIT) campus is located on 157/F Nilgunj Road, Panihati Kolkata,at a walking distance of seven minutes from Sodepur Railway Station on 4,0468 square metres of land. The college shares the campus with sister colleges of JIS Group, such as the Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, a pharmaceutical college,a Hotel management college and a hospitality management college.

The engineering college has one main U shaped building. An adjacent building is used for workshop practicals. The left side section of the first floor of the college consists of the computer labs, like RDBMS labs, computer language labs, networking labs etc. The Department of Electrical Engineering has its labs mainly on the ground floor, like the Electrical Machine labs, Control System labs, Thermal Power labs etc.

Academics

GNIT offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering and computer applications disciplines.^[4] The college offers B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering,Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Food Technology as well as professional degree courses in computer applications like [Master of Business Administrations] Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and Master of Computer Applications (MCA). The institute has added the Department of Business Administrations from 2010. All the courses are affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology, Salt Lake, West Bengal. There are about 75 faculty members in the departments.

Games and sports

The college has a common ground which is shared by the other JIS group colleges like Guru Nanak Institute of Dental science & Research,Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management,Pharmacy & Hospital management. Inter-College tournaments have been organized on the college ground. The ground has witnessed Inter-stream and Intra-stream tournaments which are organized every year. Games played:

Volleyball
etc.

Hostels

GNIT provides hostel facilities but they are situated outside the campus except the girls hostel which is inside the campus. Hostel for boys are divided on the basis of year. Each year has a hostel of their own. Each hostel have broadband internet for the students (only 3rd year and 4th year), but the connections of 4th year hostel are not given by the college authority, the students have taken connections on their own.

Canteens

The campus has a canteen of its own but students can use three other canteens on the same campus belonging to GNIDSR, GNIHM and GNIPSR.
