Mirik (community development block) is an administrative division in Kurseong subdivision of Darjeeling district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Mirik and Naxalbari police stations serve this block. Headquarters of this block is at Mirik.[1][2]
Geography
Mirik is located at 26°53′08″N 88°11′14″E / 26.8854833°N 88.1872559°E.
Mirik community development block has an area of 122.28 km2.[2]
Mirik block consists of rural areas with 6 gram panchayats, viz. Chenga Panighatta, Pahelagaon School Dara–I, Pahelagaon School Dara–II, Soureni–I, Soureni–II and Duptin.[3]
Demographics
As per 2011 Census of India Mirik CD Block had a total population of 46,374, all of which were rural. There were 23,394 males and 22,980 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 3,619 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 14,280.[4]
Literacy
As per 2011 census the total number of literates in Mirik CD Block was 34,334 out of which 18,873 were males and 15,461 were females.[4]
