The entire section is under the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway.

History

Railway service was established in this section during British rule.

Broad gauge

The 450 km (280 mi) long Rangiya-Murkongselek line is being converted from 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 38 in) wide metre gauge to 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) wide broad gauge. Rangiya - Rangapara North - Harmuti section is now open as Broad Gauge in 2014 . As of 2014, the work is nearly complete in Harmuti - North Lakhimpur section and the remaining is expected to be completed soon.[1] As per IR ref. dt. 14.01.2015 Rangapara North to North Lakhimpur newly converted line from MG to BG is fit for passenger trains & a Passinger train is going to start from 14.01.2015 on this section.

Proposed projects

At Sripani the track will be connected to the under construction Bogibeel bridge, allowing connectivity for tracks on both sides of Brahmaputra. A broad gauge railway track is proposed from Missamari to Tawang. The terminal station of the section is expected to be moved from Murkongselek to Parshuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh, via Pasighat and Tezu.
