She won the party's nomination when Ed Stelmach was premier and local MLA,[2] but despite his resignation, the seat was held by PC candidate and former Strathcona County councillor Jacquie Fenske. Her soon-to-be husband, Shayne Saskiw, was elected for Wildrose in Lac La Biche-St. Paul-Two Hills.

She previously served as Danielle Smith's chief of staff from 2010-2012 among other positions within the Wildrose party.[3]
