Tandur is a town in Ranga Reddy district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is located in Tandur mandal.[2] It is 116 km from State Capital Hyderabad.[3]
Demographics
In the 2011 Indian census,[4] Tandur had a population of 65,115 - of this, 51% were male and 49% female . Tandur has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy stands at 52%. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Geography
Tandur is located at 17°14′N 77°35′E / 17.23°N 77.58°E.[5] It has an average elevation of 450 m. The town is 110 km from Hyderabad, capital city of Telangana state. It is well connected with other neighbouring towns such as Zaheerabad (60 km), Sangareddy (50 km), Mahabubnagar (80 km) ,Vikarabad (40 km) and Chincholi taluka in the state of Karnataka (30 km).The major railway station is located on Secunderabad-Wadi section of Mumbai route.
Politics
It is part of Tandur Assembly constituency and Chevella (Lok Sabha Constituency)|Chevella loksabha constituency. P. Mahender Reddy of TRS Telangana Rashtra Samithi and is present MLA - Member of Legislative Assembly of Tandur Assembly Constituency.
Tandur Industries
Tandur is known for its blue & yellow coloured limestone and Yellow Lentils (Popularly known as Toor Dall); it is the main producer and distributor for blue limestone which can be used for flooring, wall cladding and slabs. Tandur provides a lot of employment for the unskilled and semi skilled people directly and indirectly via the Stone Polishing Units, which are considered as small scale industries within the city and sourroundings. It is said that there are 100's of such small scale industries.
It is popular because of the availability of the natural ground resources and agricultural lands around the place. The quaries/mines provide a great source of the raw material supply to these small scale industries and the business runs via out the year.
There are also many Dall Processing industries in and around city to process the agricultural raw products from the farmers.
Direct employment includes people working in these industries and the transportation of the stones and processed food to various parts of the country.
