Bellampalli is a municipality and mandal in Adilabad district of Telangana, India. It is one of the largest city in Adilabad district after Manchiryal.

History

Bellampalli is noted for its coal mines belonging to Singareni Collieries Company Limited.In entire Telangana Bellampalli has the maximum nuumber of coal mines and opencast mines.The first coal mine was established in 1936 by the British government. Later the town developed very rapidly with the discovery and excavation of many coal mines.The coal production from the SCCL is catering to the needs of the National Thermal Power Corporation, Ramagundam and many surrounding industrial buildings such as cement plants in Devapur,Steel factory in Visakhapatnam and power plants in Maharashtra^[3]

Bellampalli has played a vital role in Maoist revolutions in the history and a first union was formed as singareni karmika samakya (si ka sa) under ancillary part of peoples war.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,^[4] Bellampalli had a population of 55,745. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Bellampalli has an average literacy rate of 65.65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%, with 57% of the males and 43% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. Bellampalle is proposed as a new district and its centre of Adilabad if it splits into two districts . Komaram Bheem district HQ is Bellampalle .

Politics

Bellampalli has been a traditional stronghold and birthplace of the CPI, also known as the Communist Party of India. CPI leader Gunda Mallesh won the MLA seat for Bellampally in 2009 elections.Gunda Mallesh is senior politician from Bellampally and CPI Party.He elected four times from this constituency. The ex MLA's of this of constituency are Amurajula Sreedevi and Pati Subadra.Bellampalli assembly constituency comes under Peddapalli Lok Sabha constituency.suman balka is present MP and he is a student of osmania university, Youth Wing President Is Sahith Sharma.

Festivals

Typical of this region is the spring festival of Bathukamma. Other major Hindu festivals celebrated in the region are Ugadi, Sri Ramanavami, Vinayaka Chavithi, Holi, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Dasara, Deepavali, Sankranti and Maha Sivaratri. Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Ramadan (ninth month of the Islamic calendar), Laylat al-Qadr (Shab-e-Qadr), Isra and Mi'raj (Shab-e-Meraj), Shab-e-barat (Mid-Sha'ban), Milad-un-Nabi (Mawlid) and Muharram (Day of Ashura) with great pomp and ceremony and Christians celebrate Christmas and Good Friday.

Cuisine

Sakinalu is one of the many traditional snacks made in Bellampalli Usually, they are made for Sankranti festival. They are made with rice flour and sesame seeds, and fried in oil. Sarvapindi is the another traditional snack native to Telangana.

Bellampalle Has Different Climate Conditions. In Winter Temperature Goes Down To 4c And In Summer It Will Be Around 50c.

Culture

Bellampalli culture is a blend of traditional festivals, food, music and theatres. The city offers a cosmopolitan and diverse lifestyle with a variety of food, entertainment and night life.

Ellaram Jatara, Bugga Jatara are famous in Bellampalli.

Economy

Coal production has been very important to the economic history of Bellampalli and it is thus known as an industrial town.^[5] A chemicals and fertilizer factory also lies in the town. However, the average income of Rs. 5000/- per capita according to 1989 figures mean that the average person is living in poverty.^[6]

Transport

Road

Bellampalli is well connected by road and train. Daily many passengers and express trains are travelling to their destinations. Tsrtc is organising five-super luxury buses and an Indra a/c bus to Hyderabad and so many to Manchiryal and Godavarikhani for every 15 min. as Bellampalli does not have its own bus depot, Tsrtc is planning to construct one.

Bellampally railway station

Bellampalli is one of the important railway stations in Telangana region and it lies in Nagpur–Hyderabad line. Railway station situated in the center of the city. All major superfast trains have halt but some trains are not given halt due to manchiryal and politicians choices in this station.
