Caroline Nilsson Troy (born in Lewiston, Idaho) is a Republican Idaho State Representative since 2014 representing District 5 in seat B.
Early life, education and career
Nilsson Troy was raised in Lewiston, attending St. Stanislaus Catholic School. In 1971 Nilsson Troy’s family moved to Botswana while her father managed a research farm. The family returned to Idaho in 1977 to work on their farm and ranch operation in Latah, Clearwater, and Nez Perce Counties. She graduated from Orofino High School and from the University of Idaho in 1984 with a B.S. in Communications.
After graduating, she moved to Southwick and worked in farming and ranching. In 1992, Nilsson Troy began her career as a professional fundraiser, starting at Tri-State Hospital Foundation in Clarkston, Washington, and later for the University of Idaho and Washington State University. Nilsson Troy is currently the President of Nilsson Advisory Group, which helps non-profits secure private support. She is married to Dave Troy, owner of Troy Insurance in Lewiston. They reside in Genesee and have four daughters.
Idaho House of Representatives
When long-time Democratic legislator Shirley Ringo decided to run for Congress in 2014, Nilsson Troy became a candidate for her seat, running unopposed in the Republican Primary. In the general election she defeated Democrat Gary Osborn, of Troy and Independent, David Suswal, of Deary, winning by more than 600 votes in one of Idaho's most competitive legislative districts.
